The Forest Achievement Guide: Don’t Save The Forest

The “Don’t Save the Forest” achievement requires players to cut down 1,000 trees in The Forest. This is a laborious task and many players will want to find out the easiest way to finish it.

Previous sources from The Forest subreddit, forums, and other sites state that players will need to do this achievement in one sitting. This means that they cannot quit the game since the counter will reset. Some sources even state that saving resets the counter, indicating that players cannot save during the session.

However, the latest version of the game seems to have fixed this issue. Furthermore, the counter counts trees across saves. Note that this is based on a PC version of The Forest and may not apply to consoles.

Getting the Achievement:

There are two main ways to get the “Don’t Save The Forest” achievement.

Normal Method

First is by playing the game normally and cutting down 1,000 trees. Players can use axes, chainsaws, and explosives to cut down trees. This method will require more than a couple of hours of cutting down trees, especially if they are fighting off cannibals at the same time.

Players can speed up this process by having friends join them in cutting down trees. They can also do this method in creative mode to prevent enemy spawns and disable survival features. Still, four players cutting down 1,000 trees will take many hours to get the achievement.

Console Command-Assisted Method

Alternatively, players can get the “Don’t Save The Forest” achievement with the help of the console command. This method requires turning on developer mode.

Title Screen Devmode

Players can turn developer mode on by typing: “developermodeon” (without quotes) in the title screen. After starting a session, players can press F1 to open the console command which will show on the top of the screen. If a bar appears after pressing F1, then developer mode is on.

Simply type the following on the console:

  • additem 29 – This will spawn explosives in the player’s inventory.
  • itemhack on – This will make the number of explosives infinite.
  • godmode on – This will make the player invincible and avoid accidental death from falling trees or explosives.

Players can then start throwing the explosives into the forest which will quickly cut down trees. The process can take about 15-30 minutes depending on the player’s efficiency at throwing the explosives.

Similar to the other method, players can expedite the process by inviting others to the session. Just continue throwing explosives and the “Don’t Save the Forest” achievement should pop up eventually.
